Anson Farms
Anson Farms, is located in Knox County, Indiana, near Vincennes. Anson Farms was started by John Anson, and his wife Francis. John, Francis, and their sons continued the operation by raising corn, soybeans, wheat, swine, beef cattle, and dairy cattle. One of John’s sons, Doug, and his wife Margie continued Anson Farms when John and Francis retired. Anson Farms focused on implementing healthy soil practices in their operation. In 2010, they made a commitment to sustainable agriculture by moving away from tillage and becoming a completely no-tillage farm operation. Anson Farms furthered its commitment to sustainable agriculture in the fall of 2011, with the addition of fall-seeded cover crop. Their sustainable practices gained recognition in 2013 when Anson Farms received the River-Friendly Farmer Award from the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. In 2014 Doug welcomed the fourth generation into the operation when his son Ethan returned from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. Anson Farms continues to be ran by Doug, Margie, and Ethan growing corn and soybeans. The operation remains devoted to sustainable farming through the continuation of cover crops, precision nitrogen placement, and plant pest management.
